Appeals

In her role as Deputy Public Defender for the City of Virginia Beach, Suzanne held the position of Appellate Coordinator, supervising the 27 attorneys in that office. Not only did she successfully write and argue her own appeals to the Court of Appeals of Virginia and Virginia Supreme Court, she edited and oversaw all appeals originating out of her office.

Clients may feel that their case is simply over if they lose in the trial courts…and this could not be further from the truth. When trial courts commit legal error, the Appellate Courts can and do overturn convictions. Suzanne has successfully argued many cases on appeal and in one case, she convinced the Virginia Supreme Court to reverse (overturn) her client’s convictions and the client was released immediately from prison. (See Robert Lee Jay v. Commonwealth of Virginia and Darius Tremayne James v. Commonwealth of Virginia. Record Nos. 071432, 071599. Decided: April 18, 2008 – Click here to see details).

If you are dissatisfied with the result of your trial and you are convicted, consult Moushegian immediately because the clock starts ticking on your appeal from the moment you are sentenced. She can advise you of your appellate remedies and the likelihood of your success in the Virginia Appellate courts.

Remember, she is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
